M1 - The Crab Nebula

This is the famous Crab Nebula. Charles Messier, mistaking this for a comet decided to compile a catalog of comet-like objects. This is the first in the list. This object is actually the remnant of a supernova which was observed by Chinese astronomers in 1054 AD!
